A strong tide runs up the coast from Dover so we waited until midday to catch this. Leaving the busiest port in the UK was quite dramatic and we plugged Tikka’s Travels and Action for Children one last time as we left with Kaz dressed in the chicken suit and the rest of us in our Action for Children tops.
Again the wind was against us but a strong tide was in our favour. With clear visibility and smooth seas it was an enjoyable passage navigating past Goodwin sands.
The entrance to Ramsgate had a strong cross current flowing and the wind increased making a bumpy ride in.
It was a tricky place to berth with strong tide and gusting winds and poor Kaz suffered an injury whilst berthing. After a 6 hour visit to Ramsgate Queen Elizabeth hospital Kaz returned with 8 stitches to her right thumb but still smiling and determined to continue on.
It was time for a visit to the local pub for a spot of medicinal pain relief.
Next stop Brightlingsea.
