Day 39 Through the Sound of Mull and on to Crinan 12/07/16

Back to the early starts! Call the hands was 0430 for an 0500 slip from Tobermory. We had 3 tidal gates to consider with a 40 mile passage to Crinan, so planning the times to get through the Firth of Lorn, Sound of Luing and the Dorus Mor were critical. Tides run at up to 8 knots in places and Tikka would be going backwards or worse stuck in strong overfalls if we got it wrong.

We had a good wind that allowed us to hoist the spinnaker and with favourable tides and wind all went well and to plan. We arrived at Crinan to enter the canal with 4 minutes to spare at 17:26  (the lock closes for the evening at 1730!).

Another enjoyable days sailing with some good helming and navigation by Kaz, Lou, Martin and Harry saw Tikka’s crew come together as a team. It was now time to head ashore to promote our cause. We had some very interested and sympathetic customers in the Crinan hotel that helped to fill our little red bucket with more funds. A fine end to a great day.
